How Many Diapers Do I Need?

How Many Diapers Needed?

How many diapers you need depends on how many diaper changes you make and how often you wash.  Newborns should be changed 10-12 times a day.  As baby grows you will need fewer changes per day. Older babies need to be changed 8-10 times and toddlers usually need 6–8 changes. This of course will vary depending on your baby. A good rule to follow for washing diapers is every 2-3 days. Any longer and stains and odors set in.

The basic guidelines are:

 24-30 for Newborns +  7-8 Covers

15-20 for older babies- starting around 5-6 months

12-18 for toddlers

The guidelines above are using prefold or fitted diapers and covers for the Newborn stage and Pockets or AIOS for the rest.  You can adjust this as needed. Diaper covers do not need to be changed every time. If they are not soiled they can be used again for the next diaper.  4-6 covers for every dozen prefold or fitted diaper works best for the older stages.
